WELCOME TO
Looks like you need a Big Hug!

The Story
Looks Like You Need a Big Hug is a celebration of kindness and compassion. It’s the kind of book you’ll want to give as a gift, read aloud, and return to again and again. With gentle text and expressive illustrations, this book encourages children to recognize feelings, respond with kindness, and take small steps to brighten someone’s day.

Inspired by one boy’s instinct to give a hug just when it was needed most, the story follows ten relatable moments in a child’s life, each one calling for a different kind of hug. Whether it’s a rough day, a proud accomplishment, or simply a quiet moment together, every page is a reminder of how powerful love and presence can be.
"A book about noticing feelings, sharing kindness, and the incredible power
of one small act - a hug."
Interactive by Design
Each of the ten Big Hug scenarios in the book ends with a thoughtful question, designed to encourage conversation between reader and child. These gentle prompts encourage reflection, spark empathy, and strengthen the bond between readers.
Parents, grandparents, teachers, caregivers, and young readers alike can turn story time into heart time with this book.
Is there someone you might want to say
"I'm Sorry" to ?
“Ten hugs. Ten chances to connect and reflect.”

A Hug to Keep
At the end of the story, one final page is left open, ready for the reader to add their own Big Hug. Whether it’s drawn, written, or shared aloud, this last hug becomes a treasured keepsake and a memory.

“The last hug is yours to give.”
Inspired by Michael
This book was born from the life and love of Michael Brindley, a boy whose instinct to comfort others made a lasting impression. He had a way of showing up, arms wide, when someone needed it most. Michael was known for giving heartfelt hugs and truly noticing those around him. His quiet kindness and joyful spirit lives on through every page and every hug.
Michael’s legacy also lives on through the work of the
just1mike foundation - a nonprofit created in his honor that supports youth heart health and advocates for awareness, prevention and survival of sudden cardiac arrest in youth.
